Foodventure Episode 4 : 49 Seats

I am sure most of you are not unfamiliar with 49 Seats which opened its first branch in Outram, with exactly 49 seats – true to its name. Due to overwhelming demand, they opened another 2 branches in Bugis Plus and Orchard Central.

Now, they have progressed on to merge all of these outlets together to its new MEGA outlet in Centrepoint!

This new 49 Seats outlet boasts a whopping 149 seats(that is what I call an UPGRADE), with the interior design made out of recycled metal tins, paper plates etc, giving the whole restaurant a very unique retro-ish look, perfect for people to rest and relax after a long day. Interestingly, their unit number at Centre Point is also #01-49!!

Besides the appealing designs of the restaurant, you can also expect their food to taste just as amazing and receive great value for money.

Without further ado, let’s review what we ordered that day at the new 49 Seats!

Of course, every meal has to start with some light bites and appetizers, so we once again ordered our classic favourite – Cream Of Mushroom!

IMG_1618Look at the big mushroom slices!

The Cream Of Mushroom (soup) over here at 49 seats is not just like your typical canned mushroom soup. It is creamy with large slices of mushroom within it. Accompanied with their buttery garlic bread, this is definitely the perfect way to start your meal here! Moreover, the serving is so big that it is a bit of an understatement to call it an appetizer alone. Talking about understatement, let us take a look at the next side dish we ordered.

The Chicken and Cheese Salad

Yes! I did not believe that this was a “side order” as well when I first saw it. I think this very generous serving is enough to fill almost every one. Besides the serving quantity, the salad quality itself is also perfect! The chicken was tender and juicy and goes really well with the salad in general.

Moving on to our main orders, we would first and foremost like to bring out 49 Seats’ Signature Tom Yum Seafood Pasta! (OUR PERSONAL FAVOURITE)

I am sure most of you have heard of this either from other food blogs or word of mouth but if you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend you to! Other than the generous serving (again, 49 seats has really big servings in generally), the sauce was creamy and milky, with the hint of sour and spiciness from the tom yum. Who knows such a fusion of eastern spice and western food can be so impressive! I would like to commend 49 Seats for their insane creativity to create this perfect EAST-MEETS-WEST dish.

The tom yum spice mixed with the whole pasta is truly unique and for those who are not a big fan of tom yum, maybe you will even perceive tom yum differently after giving this a try.

PSSSSHHH YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS TOM YUM SEAFOOD PASTA!!

Moving on, we also ordered their Sirloin Al Scampi – premium cut steak topped with seafood, drenched in creamy white wine garlic sauce.

I was really taken aback by the amount of seafood that was actually on top of the sirloin steak! Just take a look above! They have all kinds of seafood – from big juicy prawns to giant mussels and scallops.

Not only that, the steak was thick, juicy, with the right texture as well (I ordered medium-well). It is also very balanced in the fats-to-meat ratio. Just imagine the tenderness of the steak mixed with the softness of the fats which melts in your mouth. Coupled with their special white wine sauce. Nothing beats this!

Fish & Chips with Tom Yum or Al Scampi sauce.

Both the tom yum and al scampi sauce seem so mouth watering. How do I make a decision…?

The Fish & Chips were fried to perfection. Crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. It also tasted very fresh without the much feared fishy smell. Furthermore, it goes really well with both the sauces as well! I really need to find out who is the one behind the recipe of the sauces here. They are just so good! If you’re a fan of the traditional Fish & Chips (Like us) but yet looking for a novel & interesting twist, this is the dish to go for!

For fans of cheese, you can go for their Cheesy Chicken Chop.

Their Chicken Chop is thick, tender, and juicy. Topped with melted cheese, it is a true heaven for cheese lovers like us. Every mouthful is so filling and satisfying and once you start, you will not be able to stop til the whole chicken chop is finished! (That is, if you can finish it alone because the portions are HUMONGOUS)

A final look at what we ordered!

Besides their dedicated food, their beverages are also worth mentioning, specifically their Siam Coconut and Coke with lime.

As Singaporeans, we LOVE to travel to Bangkok not only for shopping purposes, but for their food as well. But it wouldn’t make sense to travel there every now and then right? Fortunately, 49 Seats has brought my favorite part of Bangkok over to Singapore with their Siam Coconut which is fresh and definitely refreshing after a plate of Tom Yum pasta! I brings me back to the days where I walk along Chatuchak leisurely in the sun, sipping on my coconut juice!

Their coke with plume is the synergistic mix between sweet and hint of sourness! Perfect for you guys out there with sour cravings yea??

Indeed, 49 Seats is a casual dining place for everyone- from those who crave Italian-Asian fusion dishes to those who are simply looking for a place to chill and sip on some drinks. 49 Seats definitely has great value for money because the portion sizes are much bigger than most restaurants out there! Overall, I love the very relaxing atmosphere of the new place, this would be somewhere I look forward to going to after work or during the weekends. So… what are you waiting for? 🙂
